Dam removal Europe
Thousands of old dams are blocking European rivers and damaging the homes of important animals like sturgeon, salmon, trout, otter, and stork. These dams are out of use but still prevent rivers from flowing.
Dam removal Europe and also WWF Europe are running projects to tackle those issues and remove old and unused barriers and structurs that prevent fish from migrating and block them from reaching natural spawning grounds.
Imagine free-flowing rivers with a stable and natural population of different fish species…this would make grey herons even more happy. However, not just herons will benefit from more natural waters in Europe but also mammals, insects and – of course – ourselves.
Because healthy waters are important.
